Mike’s Nixie obsession

“BigTime” Mk II Nixie

And from the Brits, Laurence Wilkin’s

http://www.mrnixie.com/ “BigTime Mk II” polished aluminum, and remote controlled kit clock. This is a direct drive design complete with GPS, blue SMD LED under-lighting, Temp probe option (works well) and external slave clock drive (have yet to play with this feature). This clock is nicely done with exceptional documentation. Case is nicely machined out of a chunk of billet aluminum. Polishing was, however, a bit dodgy with some fly cut marks visible from the machining process. I had it locally re-polished and  now it looks great. The Remote Control is unique among Nixie clocks and a VERY nice feature. It would be nice if setup could be done manually as well. I  went through some bad batches of tubes with this clock originally, but Wilkins was good about replacing any bad ones. I recently noticed that if you if you listen really close in a quiet room, this clock audibly “ticks” out the seconds. I’m sure this was intentional and it would be nice if there was a way to increase the volume a bit. Sadly, this clock is no longer available nor does Wilkins appear to be in the business of making Nixie clocks anymore.

He recently posted this video of a round IN-18 hybrid clock (called the DL1), but claims this is a one-off and will not be available for sale.
